Louisiana Math and Science Teacher Institute
Description
The work of LaMSTI responds to the local Louisiana K-12 educational system; our goal is to support the professionalization of STEM teaching, but this a much more complex task than we can represent on a poster. Our presentation focuses on concrete, specific findings, including contributions from cognitive scientists studying teacher expertise (Fisher, Lane and Matthews), a teacher who has investigated transfer to classroom practice (Alphonso), the lead designer of the physics curriculum (Slezak), and the external project evaluator (Meyer), providing different but related perspectives on the problem of delivering and evaluating university-based academic work that is intended to impact the effectiveness of STEM instruction.
